Karius makes dreadful error in Besiktas Europa League game

All goalkeepers make mistakes.

Remember in the summer when David De Gea let that Cristiano Ronaldo shot through his legs? And then earlier this season when £65m man Alisson went walkabout at Leicester?

It’s just that some goalkeepers’ mistakes are more closely scrutinised than others.

Which brings us on to Loris Karius , the man Liverpool jettisoned this summer to make room for Alisson.

The German will have to remember his errors in May’s Champions League final for the rest of his career, but unfortunately that also means that whenever he makes an error from now on it will be highlighted by fans.

Which brings us to Thursday night, and just his second match in European competition since that nightmare final in Kiev.

Playing for Besiktas at Malmo in the Europa League, the on-loan Karius saw a cross from Andreas Vindheim deflect off Caner Erkin and loop towards his goal, only for him to completely fail to deal with it and allow it to drop into the net.

It wasn’t pretty, and would have brought back some uncomfortable memories for the German.

Hopefully he can get his form back soon.

That was Malmo’s opening goal of the game, and they ended up running out 2-0 winners with Markus Rosenberg adding a penalty.
