Julia Roberts wasn’t the only one from her high school who was bound for stardom.
Describing her teens, the 49-year-old star said she was friends with some ‘fabulous’ people in high school – including one who would eventually become an astronaut.
The beauty called astronaut Shane Kimbrough ‘the coolest guy’ from school, also revealing that the pair still talk and the NASA pro even Skypes the starlet from space in an interview with People.
Friends in high places! Julia Roberts recently told People about one of the amazing people she’s still friends with from high school – NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough
The star – who was just named People’s World’s Most Beautiful Woman – described herself as ‘awkward’ in high school but said she still made many ‘fabulous’ friends at her small school in Smyrna, Georgia.
But there one of her classmates who she particularly admired.
‘[There was] a boy I went to school with who was smart and a football player and was handsome… And he went on to become an astronaut and he is in space — and [I] Skyped with him yesterday.’
‘The coolest’: The movie star talked about her small high school, describing herself as ‘awkward’ while saying her peer Shane is ‘officially’ the coolest person from their class. Above you can see Kimbrough in October 2016

The actress described her surreal space conversation to the magazine.
‘He, like, floated and told us all about this space mission that he is on,’ Roberts told the magazine, ‘And I told him, “You are officially the coolest guy I went to high school with.”‘
Kimbrough has definitely earned his ‘cool’ credentials. After attending West Point on a presidential scholarship, he became a lieutenant colonel in the US Army and earned his Master’s of Science from Georgia Institute of Technology.
The Georgia-born space pioneer was selected as an astronaut by NASA in 2004, and went on his first mission in 2008.
Message from the stars: The Hollywood hotshot told the magazine that Shane still stays in touch – even Skyping the star from space recently. Above you can see Julia on the May 1 cover of People
Roberts’ shuttle to stardom was equally as hard earned.
The star first burst onto the scene with Pretty Woman in 1990 and after a host of iconic roles, earned an Academy Award in 2000 as the tough-as-nails title character in Erin Brockovich.
Later this year, she stars in Wonder – an inspirational drama about a boy born with a facial deformity finding his place in the world. The film also features the talent of Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay of Room.
Wonder is set for release November 2017.
