Jose Mourinho drops David de Gea bombshell

Jose Mourinho has fuelled speculation that David de Gea could quit Manchester United .

The Spanish keeper’s contract expires next summer, although the Red Devils are expected to take up the 12-month option on the deal.

United chiefs have been locked in talks with De Gea’s representatives in a bid to thrash out fresh terms, but Mourinho has given the clearest indication yet that the shotstopper could move on.

"I am not confident," he told Sky Sports when asked if his No.1 would commit his long-term future to Old Trafford.

"I cannot find the word in English, but let’s see what happens.

"Only the club, David and his people can answer that. My comment is only that everyone knows how good he is, how important he is for Manchester United and, if the club want to be better than it is and not worse, obviously it would be very important to keep David."

Juventus are batting their eyelids at the Spanish stopper – and the 27-year-old’s agents are open to the idea, according to The Sun .

A United source said: “De Gea played against his future club on Tuesday.

“Juve are experts in intelligent deals. If United don’t sell him in the summer, Juventus will wait until the end of his contract.”

United may be forced into a cut-price sale next summer with the risk of losing him for free 12 months later.

De Gea had been linked heavily with Real Madrid but that appears to be dead in the water after they signed Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois.
