James McAvoy nearly fell victim to $10K vacation scam

James McAvoy is warning those planning an upcoming holiday to proceed with caution

“Just avoided being scammed online,” the 39-year-old actor captioned an Instagram video ranting about a company that nearly swindled him out of $10,000.

“Trying to book a holiday for my family at The Ritz Carlton Abama hotel in Tenerife,” McAvoy added, pointing out the hotel’s actual website and the fake one set up by scammers.

McAvoy said he nearly made a bank transfer to the sham hotel after emailing with a man named Joaquin. “Stay away! If you’ve been scammed by them, hit me up,” he added.

To help others, McAvoy says he’s alerted the real Ritz Carlton of the imposter.

“I just thought the deal seemed too good to be true. I doubled checked it through a travel agent and it was a 10th of the price it should be,” he added.

McAvoy, who has starred in hit films and shows like “Deadpool 2,” “Atomic Blonde” and “X-Men: Apocalypse,” ended his video by saying he will not be going on that holiday after all.
