How Pogba reacted to being stripped of Manchester United vice-captaincy

Paul Pogba insists he was unaffected by Jose Mourinho’s decision to strip him of the Manchester United vice-captaincy.

The French midfielder was told he would not captain United again back in September following the Carabao Cup defeat to Derby.

Pogba had captained United on occasions when Antonio Valencia was unavailable but Ashley Young has taken the armband since then.

At the time, Mourinho insisted there had been no fall-out between the pair and Pogba has backed up those comments.

And ahead of his return to former club Juventus in the Champions League, he says the decision has not impacted his performances.

"It didn’t affect me. I’m still playing and really happy to play," the Frenchman said.

"The manager is the one who chooses who is going to be captain. If he takes the armband away, it doesn’t change anything for me.

"I just want to play, perform and give my best for the team, the fans and the club and that’s it. It didn’t really touch me or affect me.”

Meanwhile, Mourinho has insisted he does not have a problem with Paul Pogba – despite the pair having clashed this season.

Manchester United boss Mourinho and midfielder Pogba have endured a difficult relationship over the two-and-a-half years they have worked together.

"What the Press says is one thing, another is what Paul says and another is what I say," said Mourinho.

"The Press say we have a terrible relationship, but some months ago Paul said we gave a typical coach and player relationship.

"I think he have a good relationship between a coach and a football player."
