He is renowned for his love of appearing completely naked on screen.
But Ewan McGregor has revealed he hated piling on the pounds so he could appear overweight for his latest nude scene on TV show Fargo.
The Scots hunk was seen wearing just a towel after having a bath in the moment from Wednesday night’s debut episode of the FX show.
He had a bad feeling about this: Ewan McGregor has revealed he hated piling on the pounds for his Fargo nude scene
The 46-year-old had just got back into peak shape due to regular in the Scottish hills while filming T2 Trainspotting when he learned from the show’s creator Noah Hawley he would have to adopt a more robust physique.
Explaining his approach to weight gain to Vanity Fair, he said: ‘I ordered a massive dessert and started putting on weight from that second onward.
‘It’s quite nice when you’re ordering – you can order whatever you like. But the truth is I would go to bed every night not feeling very great.
‘I’m a small guy. I’m not really used to carrying weight. It doesn’t make you feel great. I like to feel fit and healthy. But it was effective. It worked.’
Ewan plays the roles of both wildly contrasting brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy on the show, and for the latter turn he had to be rather heavy for a pivotal bathroom scene.
All you can eat: The Scots beefcake said he feasted on massive desserts to gain weight
What a surprise: His character’s girlfriend, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, is rather more aesthetically pleasing
Putting a ring on it: He pledges to get her a bauble but needs some help
The Jock beefcake said: ‘You see my naked body. Although I wear some padding for Ray to make him heavier, this scene had to justify that padding.
‘It wouldn’t make sense for me to wear padding and not be fat when I got out of the bath.
‘So when I got out of the bath, I was properly overweight for me.’
It would take two-and-a-half hours for Ewan to transform into Ray, during which time he was putting on padding, prosthetics, cowboy boots and a fetching wig.
What a contrast: Ewan plays wildly contrasting brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy on the show
Polar opposites: While Emmit is handsome and successful his sibling is down on his luck
In contrast to down-on-his luck Ray, his other character Emmit is a traditionally handsome and more successful sibling.
Ewan turned to Spanx to hold in his wobbly bits when portraying the more aesthetically gifted brother, and he is now hoping to become a celebrity endorser of the brand.
He said: ‘I think I’m going to try to do their next campaign ad. Maybe I can capitalise on this somehow.’
However enrages his brother by refusing to help him in a time of need as he tries to get a ring for his girlfriend, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
This drives a story that features murder, angry gangsters mobsters and game of cutthroat competitive bridge.
