To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the well-known comedy based on the music of ABBA, Universal Pictures is releasing a sequel. Yes, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! is on the way to brighten up our lives with more happy sounding Scandinavian pop.
Many of the original cast are returning, and that includes Dominic Cooper and Amanda Seyfried. Not only did the two play lovers Sky and Sophie, but they dated in real life during that period too.
Luckily it doesn’t look like that will be an issue for Cooper, who told The Times that the pair still get along.
“I think it will be fine working with Amanda again,” he says. “I haven’t spoken to her for a while, but we always remained friends.
“Though it’ll be odd, gazing into each other’s eyes and singing an ABBA song.”
Well, they are some of the most emotional songs of all time so we understand.
The Preacher actor also spoke fondly of his time working on the first film, adding: “It was a very turbulent, but enjoyable, happy time and part of life.
“So to be going back there ten years down the line, with the same group of people . . . It’s like the point of reflection of 40 [years old]: it will be a marker.”
Dominic Cooper recently spoke to Digital Spy about why the film is coming out now, saying he’s glad the producers have waited.
“They’ve waited for a script to come along that makes sense and is fun and is gonna be as exciting for fans of the original, and that’s really important,” he said.
Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! is set for release in UK cinemas on July 27, 2018.
As well as Cooper and Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan are also returning, while Baby Driver‘s Lily James has signed on in the role of a ‘Young Donna’.
