‘We all know you’re a junkie and lying to us the whole time’: Davina McCall told John Bishop about the moment she decided to tackle her drug addiction following her friend’s ultimatum
‘”You think you’ve got this kind of mask up and you’re kidding us all, but you’re not. We all know that you’re a junkie and we all know you’re taking heroin or we all know that you’re lying to us the whole time. And I’m not going to stand around and watch it anymore”.
‘And she’d been so there for me the whole time, I just thought she was going to be the one constant. And when she said that’s it, I was devastated.’
She recalled slamming the door and swearing at her friend but it was in that moment the model decided to come clean.
Revealed: The 49-year-old became hooked on drugs when she was in her 20s
And it was only after she overcame her drug problem, that she landed her own television show on MTV.
Now Davina has been happily married to the presenter of Pet Rescue Matthew Robertson since they got hitched at Eastnor Castle, Hertfordshire in June 2000.
The loved-up couple co-raise three children together – daughters Holly, 15 Tilly, 13 and son Chester, 10.
Happiness: But the turning point for the TV personality was when her last friend said they weren’t going to stick around to watch her crumble
Her second marriage comes after she split from her first husband Andrew Leggett, who she tied the knot with in 1997.
Meanwhile, the TV personality has been pushing herself for a Sport Relief challenge in 2014.
She raised more than £2 million for charity as she swam, cycled and ran across the UK for seven days.
Turning point: Their harsh words spurred the star onto success and she landed her first show on MTV when she came clean
Describing the challenge, she added: ‘I didn’t want to let anyone down – I will do anything to not let people down because when I was using I was so unreliable and undependable.
‘And so it was really important to me in recovery that, if I say I’m going to do something then I do it.
‘If I’m going to be somewhere on time, I’m there; if I commit to something, it makes me feel bad if I don’t.’
John Bishop In Conversation With Davina McCall airs on W at 9pm on Thursday.
