After RadarOnline.com exclusively revealed Geoffrey Owens was working as a cashier at a Trader Joe’s grocery store in New Jersey, the former Cosby Show star has confessed he took on the humbling gig.
“There is no job that’s better than another job. It might pay better, it might have better benefits, it might look better on a resume and on paper. But actually, it’s not better. Every job is worthwhile and valuable,” he told Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts in a TV interview on Monday morning, September 4.
thanked fans for their “incredible support” after Radar broke the news of his move from Hollywood to the checkout line.

“It’s really overwhelming, in a good way,” he said. “I kind of feel like that character in that Woody Allen movie that wakes up one morning and he’s a celebrity all of a sudden.”
“I really want to thank everybody out there, family, friends, Hollywood community, and the general public for the incredible support, the amazing support and positivity.”
Owens, 57, insisted he has a “great career” despite his new gig — and fans shouldn’t pity him.

“No one should feel sorry for me,” he said. “I’ve had a great life. I’ve had a great career. I’ve had a career that most actors would die for. So no one has to feel sorry for me. I’m doing fine!”
Radar first reported that the star, who rose to fame as Sondra Huxtable’s husband Elvin Tibideaux on the hit 90’s show, looked “unhappy” while recently checking out shoppers at a Trader Joe’s in Clifton, N.J.
“It made me feel really bad. I was like, ‘Wow! All those years of doing the show and you ended up as a cashier,’” Trader Joe’s shopper Karma Lawrence told Radar.
Owens insisted to Radar he’s still a working actor, and said he was teaching a Shakespearean workshop in New York City.
