Baby-faced Cheryl appears in 15-year-old Postars clip

‘You’d need to be dead if you didn’t think she was stunning!’ Baby-faced teenager Cheryl looks unrecognisable in resurfaced 15-year-old clip of debut TV appearance on Popstars: The Rivals

She’s undergone many an image and name re-brand over her 15 years in showbiz.

But Cheryl’s – as she is simply known for the time being – career beginnings have come crawling out of the woodwork when a clip from her first TV appearance resurfaced on Friday.

Re-shared all of a sudden, the aspiring Geordie singer is 19 at the time of the clip, and is seen singing in front of show judges Geri Halliwell, Pete Waterman and Louis Walsh.

After belting out a rendition of S Club 7’s Have You Ever, the baby-faced performer leaves the trio of judges in awe.

But while they’re pleased enough with her voice, it’s her eyes and complexion that have them gushing.

‘You have the most beautiful eyes and skin I think I’ve ever seen in my life,’ says Pete, seemingly mesmerized by the wannabe star.

Geri can be heard repeatedly uttering the word ‘stunning’, while Louis gets down to the nitty gritty.

‘I want to put her through,’ he said. ‘Do you want to be a pop singer? Is that all you want to do? You know it’s a really tough life? It’s late nights, early mornings and lots of bulls**t.’

Cheryl insists that she won’t settle for anything less, and is put through to the next round, which was in London.

As she leaves, Pete adds: ‘You’d need to be dead if you didn’t think she was stunning, my God!’

Of course, this was just the beginning for Cheryl, who was known then as Cheryl Tweedy.

She went on to win the show, as part of what would eventually become Girls Aloud, alongside Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts.

And notably, Cheryl also went on to become a talent show judge herself, alongside Louis no-less, on the X Factor.

Things could have turned out differently for the singer, who to date has released four solo albums since Girls Aloud disbanded after ten years.

She was nearly cut from Popstars: The Rivals when she found herself in the bottom two one week, following a lacklustre performance of Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinéad O’Connor.

Of course she is also known as the other half of Liam Payne, who on the same day the video resurfaced released his debut solo single, while on his hiatus from One Direction (who Cheryl famously judged when they were, themselves, competing on the X Factor).

She has also recently given birth to her first child, with Liam – who last week they revealed was called Bear Grey.

Cheryl has been keeping a low profile of late, very much ‘nesting’ since she fell pregnant and consequently had Bear.

She is thought to be releasing new music sometime soon, having quit her role on the X Factor panel to work on a new album, after returning to the show following a break, for two seasons.

Cheryl is now 33, and has, alongside her colourful pop career, been married twice, altering her name from Tweedy to Cole, to Fernandez-Versini since her days as a wannabe pop artist.

Liam appeared on Radio 1 on Friday morning to unveil his new single, Strip That Down.

Asked by Nick Grimshaw about meeting on the X Factor, Liam hastily replied: ‘She doesn’t like to talk about that.’

Shutting down the conversation, he then cheekily promised to talk about the situation to the radio host ‘in private’.

As Nick changed the subject to ask about his plans for the future, he quipped that Liam had plenty of time to keep working as ‘he’s only 12’.

Laughing, Liam shot back: ‘[Cheryl’s] going to be really offended that you called me 12 by the way.’
