Avril Lavigne Covers ‘Billboard Magazine’

Singer Avril Lavigne graces the cover of the October 20, 2018 issue of ‘Billboard Magazine.’ In the issue, she talks about the harrowing experience of trying to make a comeback on her terms after years of battling a disease that nearly killed her.

After feeling ill on tour in 2014, a friend thought that Avril showed some of the symptoms of Lyme Disease and suggested that she contact Yolanda Hadid — mother of models Gigi, Bella and Anwar — who had started speaking about her own experiences with the disease on TV. Yolanda suggested a specialist for Avril who finally diagnosed the disease, after previous doctors had missed it.

But by that time Avril began suffering severe symptoms that made it impossible for her to even stand up. “I was in bed for f**king two years,” she says in the issue’s cover story. “It went undiagnosed for so long that I was kind of f**ked.”

Avril shares how she finally got back to making music, step by step. And how her current single, “Head Above Water” was less a survival anthem, and more like a prayer to God for strength during her health struggles.
