A Definitive Ranking of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie's Wildest, Wackiest, Best-Ever Hats

Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice get high marks for coordination — their hats for the first day of the 2018 Royal Ascot excellently complemented their outfits. Beatrice’s hat had some whimsy to it, but overall, it was not the sisters’ most exciting look.

Fashionistas couldn’t wait to see if Beatrice and Eugenie would once again steal the show with their fascinators at another royal wedding, this time of cousin Prince Harry to Meghan Markle. However, they went for a much more subdued style this time around, with Eugenie pairing her 60s style dress with a simple white pillbox hat by Stephen Jones, while Beatrice appeared to be wearing a multi-strand headband by Fiona Graham.

If there’s one occasion to break out a great hat, it’s Royal Ascot. The annual horse races see all sorts of fun (and funky) head-toppers. In 2017, Eugenie went for a wide and flat headpiece that matched her black and white dress while her older sister went with a pale pink fascinator.

Tilted to the side, their Easter chapeaux were the perfect combination of subtle and stand-out (look at the feather and floral details!). Of course, we love it when they dare to try an out-of-the-box look, but there’s something to be said for going with a classic.

Of course, Beatrice and Eugenie are seasoned pros when it comes to the Royal Ascot – and it shows with the hats they wore to day 3 of the event in 2015: a black fascinator with tulle details for Eugenie, and a red-and-turquoise hat for her sister.

Good taste in fascinators runs in the family! At 2015’s Royal Ascot, the two Princesses hung out with their mom, Sarah, the Duchess of York, and all three looked smashing in a variety of funky fascinator styles for the day.

9/10

At the annual celebration of the Queen’s birthday in 2015, while Eugenie played it safe in a go-to fascinator style, Beatrice tried something different with what looks to be a massive headband decorated with large beads. Points for originality – but we’ve definitely seen better looks from her in the past.

5/10

While Eugenie’s hat is nice, it’s Beatrice’s bright orange, contemporary-art-resembling piece that is really catching our attention (and upping their collective score!).

8/10

Beatrice’s wide brim may be giving off some umbrella vibes, but Eugenie’s floral topper with a black swirl couldn’t be a better pair with her coat. All in all? They’re okay, but we’ve seen more memorable options from the two.

6/10

Going to church on Easter Sunday with your grandma isn’t the best occasion for taking big style risks, but we applaud Beatrice and Eugenie for making their otherwise simple hats a little more interesting: the feather (and feather-esque) adds on both.

7/10

When we’re talking fun hats, these are the sort of hats we’re talking about: Interesting details (flowers! feathers! stripes! ribbon!) – plus well-matched ensembles.

9/10

A few months after Will and Kate’s wedding, Beatrice and Eugenie stepped out at Royal Ascot playing it safe – really safe. There’s nothing wrong with these toppers, but when you know what sort of hat statements these two are capable of, anything less falls a little flat.

4/10

At the Derby Day at the Investec Derby Festival in June 2011, the two stepped out in different styles. For Eugenie, it was a simple (but classic!) white and black full-brimmed hat, while Beatrice’s full-on floral look kind of made it look like she had a small garden growing on her head.

6/10

For her cousin Zara’s 2011 wedding, Eugenie went for a falling-off-the-side-of-her-head style that looked strikingly similar to the (at the time) newly minted Princess Kate’s – and we all know how chic she is!

8/10

The two princesses have worn a lot of fascinators in their day, but none come close to matching the icon status that the ones they wore to Will and Kate’s wedding back in 2011. Feathers, bows, and flowers – these two are the ones know one will ever forget (especially thanks to the slew of memes that popped up afterwards).
