When we think of Sephora top-sellers the Kat Von Ds and Too Faceds of the world immediately come to mind. Even as a self-proclaimed skin-care obsessive, I know (or thought I knew) that makeup reigns at the beauty mecca. But then again, sometimes I’m wrong.
Like today, for instance, when word of Sephora’s best-selling beauty device landed in my inbox. And no, I know what you’re thinking: It’s actually not a Clarisonic cleansing brush or a Tria hair-removal laser, despite what your virtual cart is telling you. Turns out, the beauty retailer’s number one skin-care tool is — drumroll, please — the Dermaflash, according to sales data from Dermaflash for the month of March. (We’ve also reached out to Sephora for its data and will update this post as soon as the information becomes available.) What, pray tell, is the Dermaflash? The Dermaflash is an at-home dermaplaning tool designed to smooth your complexion with a pseudo razor device. Esh, but also — awesome, tell me more.
Dermaplaning is a type of exfoliation — like a “deeper [form of] microdermabra[form of]il Sadick, a d[form of]ist in New York City, previously told Allure. The technique requires a sharp tool to scrape off the top layer of the skin (and excess facial hair), creating a fresh, smooth canvas primed for makeup. The Dermaflash is also equipped with an outer safety cage that elevates the blade just enough over the skin to avoid irritation and overexfoliation, so you don’t have to worry about any scary accidents.
Anyone remember when Real Housewives of New Jersey former cast member Caroline Manzo told the world she shaved her face every night in the shower, not for hair removal, but for the exfoliation? She was more than onto something.
